Our counseling room is one of the only few bilingual mental health service offered in Japan by a Pediatric Medical Doctor and a Registered Nurse.
Our four pillars of mission are;
1. Offering Support to children who are battling with any childhood chronic illness.
We get it. It is scary to go through medical treatments (Especially in a foreign country!). All our staff members have vast experience in working at the hospital setting. We understand how important it is to have someone to support children’s emotions throughout your battle with their physical illness. You are not alone; we are here to listen and find a way to cope with your illness, together.
2. Offering Support to the medical providers/Care takers who care for patients.
Nurses and Doctors, and caretakers at home. All the medical providers are the most selfless people who offer support to their patients. They often time sacrifice their own personal health, time with friends and family, sometime even time to eat and sleep for their patients. Sounds familiar? We are here to offer support to the medical providers themselves. We will discuss ways to prevent burnout, time to grieve their loss, and promote their emotional well-being. By doing so, we believe we can help create better work environment and help them be the best care taker for the patients.
3. Children’s Mental Health Care:
In Japan, it is still very rare for children to receive mental health support. Wait…are children who lives in Japan immune to mental health? Of course not! In the modern society we live in, children face different types of stress just like grownups do. It may be the unique stress of living in different country, language barrier, cultural differences, OR common childhood problems such as friction with their peers at school, anxiety about their future, or family conflict such as divorce. We want to welcome all children to our counseling office, so we can help guide them find a path of their own. We are here for you, no childhood problem is too small for us to listen in.
4. Bereavement and Grief Care
Loss of loved ones. This is the worst imaginable pain we experience in our lives. It may be loss of pregnancy, loss of a child, loss of your sister or brother or your parents. Whoever it was, that “someone” was loved by you, and you still miss him/her. You may feel confused why you cannot get back to “normal life” like everyone else says. The study shows almost 2/3 of people experience depression in the first 6 months after they lose their loved ones. You are not alone. Come and talk to us, we are here to listen. Let’s take time to remember your loved ones, let’s take time to find what you are looking for.
As a pediatric critical care physician, and as a clinical nurse, we believe our mission is to offer quality counseling service to those who are in need. Mental health has no “borders”. It affects everyone, no matter where you live and where you come from. We are here to promote better children’s mental health in Japan.
